What is Mini Golf or Crazy Golf?

Mini Golf has really evolved over the last couple of decades or so from where it was just a case of flat hole with a brick or ramp in the way of you putting the ball straight into the hole to where we now have massive themed courses to realistic miniature replica golf courses that you can finish with just your putter.

There are still the weird and wacky courses that offer a difficult challenge that takes you far from the traditional golf course and that is why there are 2 different names for mini golf and 3 different styles- all of which you can find on caravan holiday parks up and down the British Idles.

So if you are confused by the difference between mini golf, crazy golf and adventure golf- here is our quick guide.

Mini Golf

Mini golf is, as you would expect, a miniaturised version of the real game. These courses are often green, to look like real grass, and the only obstructions are water areas (or blue painted areas), bunkers (or yellow painted areas) and slopes.

Adventure Golf

These are the courses that tend to be larger and themed where it is as much about what happens away from the course as what happens on it.

Although there are lot’s of themes used, the most popular has to be a pirate theme, so expect model galleons, fake cannon fire and a talking parrot as you play a round.

Crazy Golf

These are your more traditional mini golf courses that used to be found up and down the country at seaside resorts. From old favourites such as windmills to loop-de-loops, these course offer ever crazier obstacles that move further and further away form a golf course with every new one built.
