Filey Caravan Holidays

Historically in East Yorkshire and currently a borough of Scarborough, Filey sits atop of the Yorkshire cliffs in-between the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough and Bridlington which makes it the ideal location for relaxing ahead of a day’s exploration.

Filey has strong transportation links to both Scarborough and Bridling with local bus service, high speed Coastliner service and even a train line going direct to both. Both are easily reached via road and the town can be easily reached from the cities of Leeds, York, Hull and Wakefield.

Filey Attractions

Filey for many is the calm oasis in the middle of the craziness of the all action seaside resorts of Bridlington and Scarborough and for many that is the main attraction of a caravan holiday in Filey. By staying in and around Filey you can enjoy all that Bridlington and Scarborough have to offer but at the end of the day you can come back to Filey, relax and get ready for another day of thrills and spills.

That’s not to say that there isn’t lots to do in the town itself including its wonderful beach. Filey beach is a beautiful sandy beach where you can walk at the foot of the Yorkshire’s famed cliffs for a mile or 2 and you can even walk from a number of the leading seafront caravan parks right into the town centre via the beach.

The promenade at Filey links the town with the beach but it is also a place to unwind by taking a stroll at the foot of the cliffs or perhaps heading down to the lifeboat house and the nearby café and amusement arcade.

Crescent Garden’s, sitting atop the cliffs in Filey, is the perfect place to simply sit and unwind all with stunning views out over the North Sea. The Gardens are also a great place to spend time with the family, especially when the tide comes in as you can simply walk up the hill from the landing.

The town centre of Filey offers a good range of national and local shops with a number of independent shops just waiting to be explored. There is also a small number of bars, cafés and restaurants.

Out and About

Filey is surrounded on 3 sides by the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, with rolling fields, small hills and lots of small villages which are all worth a visit. As well as the seaside’s resorts of Scarborough, just to the North and Bridlington, just to the South, there is plenty to explore near to Filey. Here are some of our must visit recommendations.

Bempton Cliffs: The cliffs at Bempton are known for their impressive height from the sea but for land visitors it is a chance to enjoy the nature reserve run by the RSPB that features 100,000’s. This truly spectacular sight can be enjoyed by the whole family on the well-maintained trails and viewing platforms.

North Yorkshire Moors: The North Yorkshire Moros National Park is known for its natural beauty which is popular with walks, cyclists and just those who want to unwind. The Moors are also home to the ever-popular North Yorkshire Moors Railway which is one of the longest heritage steam railways in the world and is home to many of the country’s most iconic trains. In recent times the railway lien has gained famed as a filming location for the likes of Heartbeat and the Harry Potter franchise.

Bridlington and Scarborough: Both Bridlington and Scarborough are both popular seaside resorts in their own rights and offer a wide range of attractions for visitors. From Scarborough Castle to boat rides in Bridlington, these are 2 of the most popular seaside resorts in England. Both towns also offer a good range of shopping, bars, restaurants and cafes with Peasholme Park in Scarborough a great place to unwind or see a concert at the open-air theatre.

York: York is the historical capital of Yorkshire and is now one of the most popular cities for tourists in the UK. The walled city offers many attractions; including the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Centre, York Minster and the city is also home to some of the best shopping, restaurants, cafes and bar in the North of England.

Of course, for many enjoying a caravan holiday in Filey it is the caravan park itself that is the major attraction and the good news is that for those looking at Filey for their next holiday, Filey is home to a great choice of caravan holiday parks.

Many of the country’s leading caravan park operators offer holiday parks in the surrounding area with Haven’s Blue Dolphin and Primrose Valley offering a wide range of holiday accommodation and a seemingly never ending list of activities and facilities. Of course, a large all action holiday park is for everybody but the good news is that Filey offers a choice of medium holiday parks and small caravan parks.

Then there are farmers who offer holiday caravans on their land so no matter if you want an all action experience where the holiday park is the main base for your holiday or you simply, want to have a base for exploration, Filey has you covered.

Many caravan parks that claim to be in Scarborough or Bridlington are actually located in and around Filey, with many companies seeing them as one and the same but we believe Filey in it’s own right is well worth visiting.
