It’s difficult to summarise North Yorkshire not just because of the sheer size of the ceremonial county but also because of the huge contrasts found in the region.

Stretching from the North East to the Humber and from the East coast to the borders of Lancashire and Cumbria, North Yorkshire stretchers almost right across the North of England. North Yorkshire covers an area of 3,341 square miles including national parks, cities and seaside resorts.

North Yorkshire Caravan Holidays

The majority of those looking for North Yorkshire caravan holiday parks focus on the seaside resorts of Whitby, Scarborough and Filey but North Yorkshire caravan holidays can be enjoyed throughout the region.

Seaside Resorts

Scarborough, the most popular seaside resort in North Yorkshire is found in the South East of the region. As one of the country’s most popular seaside resort there is plenty on offer for holidaymakers including the ever popular Peasholme Park, Scarborough Castle, Sea Life and Sea Sanctuary as well as the resorts 2 beautiful sandy bays.

Whitby

Located further North and near to the border of County Durham, Whitby is a completely different type of resort compared to the likes of Scarborough, with the whole town steeped in history.

Overlooked by the iconic Whitby Abbey, the main tourist area of Whitby can be found at the bottom of 2 cliff tops along the banks of the River Esk.

The town is also a great base for exploring the nearby North Yorkshire Moors national park.

Popular attractions in Whitby includes the Abbey as well as the North Yorkshire moors Railway which now terminates in the towns train station.

Robin Hood’s Bay

A visit to Robin Hood’s Bay is like stepping back in time, back to the days of smugglers and pirates. Based on top of a large cliff just to the North of Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay is a small town full of all of the trappings of modern life that changes the further down the cliff you walk.

As you follow the main road down to the sandy beach below the town, the houses and shops get closer and closer as the road narrows and begins to unwind. The sense of bygone days when sailors, smugglers and pirates would land on the beach and walk into the towns taverns quickly engulfs you just before the road opens up on a wide sandy beach- unless it’s high tide when the sea meets the town.

York

The historical capital of all of York and one of the UK leading tourist destinations. York is a city full of history but with everything you would expect from a modern city.

Major tourist attractions include the iconic York Minster, The Shambles, a range of museums including the National Railway Museum, York Dungeons and The Jorvik Centre and in recent years the cities fantastic shopping, restaurant and café scene also attracts visitors from far and wide.
