New Romney Caravan Holidays and Holiday Parks
The Kent Coast
New Romney is a small town that is located on the edge of Romney Marsh that is one of the original Cinque Ports.

Interestingly due to the build up of silt in the former harbour, the town is now over a mile from the sea although its past can be seen throughout the town with a mooring ring even found in front of the towns impressive church.

The town was originally a harbour town in the mouth of the River Rother but as the harbour was filled and the Rivers path to the sea changed, the town had to redevelop itself.

That has led to the interesting sight of many buildings, including the church, in the town having steps from their entrance to the ground.

Golf fans will perhaps know the town thanks to the nearby Littlestone-on-Se links golf courses that has been used for qualifying at the Open Championship.

In modern times, the town is popular with holidaymakers and acts as the headquarters for the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch heritage railway and of course it is also home to a small selection of caravan holiday parks for those looking for a relaxing holiday in the Kent countryside.

New Romney Caravan Holidays

If you and your family are looking for a relaxed and rural base near to the coast in the south east county of Kent, then New Romney is the perfect choice for you.

Whilst the town and the surrounding area does not offer the same choice of caravan holiday parks when compared to major holiday resorts, that is part of the draw for many as the town isn’t overrun with tourists and still retains its charm as a country town.

The good news is that the holiday parks that are on offer in the town are of a high quality and there is a caravan holiday park to suit all preferences.

New Romney Attractions

As a small and relaxed town in the Kent countryside, it will come as no surprise that New Romney doesn’t have a massive choice of visitor attractions to offer holidaymakers but that isn’t to say that the town has nothing to offer.

For many it is the location of the town that is the biggest attraction of New Romney as you not only get a great location in the countryside but you also can take a stroll to the seaside and enjoy the Kent coastline.

The biggest draw for many to the town is the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch heritage railway which is headquartered in the town and runs through over 13 miles of beautiful Kent countryside and along the coast.

The lines run from Hythe to Dungeness via Dymchurch, St Mary’s Bay, Romney Sands and of course New Romney.

The railway makes not only for a great day out reliving the history of the coast but it also makes for a great way to explore this part of Kent.

The town acts as a gateway for visiting the iconic Romney Marsh, an area of reclaimed land that is almost perfectly flat and is now rich agricultural land that spreads for miles across the coastline.

There is a small visitor centre on the outskirts of town that gives you an insight into the area.

The area has a long military history that is dominated by the battles between England and France for much of the last 1000 years and the areas part in World War 2. That history can be best explored at the Romney Marsh Wartime Collection museum.

The town St Nicholas Church is a local landmark whilst a short walk will see you reach the Kent coast at Littlestone.

Location

New Romney is ideally located in the Kent countryside, near to the coast and about halfway between Hastings and Folkstone with views out over the English Channel towards Calais in France.

Transport

If you are heading to the town using your own transportation it is relatively straightforward to reach New Romney as it is just a short drive from the M20, via the A2070/A259. The M20 links to the M25, which in turn links to many major motorways and give access to all parts of the Midlands, the North of England, Scotland and Wales.

If you are heading to the resort from other parts of the Kent coast, the A259 links New Romney with the A20 at Folkestone whilst those arriving from other parts of the South Coat can reach the town via the A259 which links to the A27 and onto Hampshire, Dorset and the rest of the South West.

Whilst the towns relatively remote location makes it a great place to relax, it does make it harder to reach via public transportation.

There are train services to Rye and Folkstone and from there it is a relatively expensive taxi ride or a long local bus service to the town.

Out and About

Many holidaymakers who choose the town as there holiday destination make New Romney a base for exploring Kent and the South East and thanks to the good road links it has, that is relatively straightforward.

To the north east of the town is the port town of Folkstone, which is just a short drive from the iconic Dover.

From both of these you can head over to the continent with your car via either ferries or Eurotunnel and explore the North of France and Belgium or why not head to Ashford a take a ride on Eurostar to France, Belgium or the Netherlands for a day out with a difference.

To the South West of the town is the historical town of Hastings which is of course famous for the 1066 battle of the same name but it is now a popular all action seaside holiday resort.

Nature lovers can head to either the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for a day of exploring and hiking.
