Location
New Milton is located in south-west Hampshire near to the Dorset border and on the western edge of the New Forest.
It is equidistant to Christchurch and Lymington and just a short drive to the coast.
Transport
Whilst the town location offers peace and quiet whilst on holiday it does make it harder to reach.
For those coming from the East and or North East, the town can be reach by either driving through the New Forest off of the A31, which links to Southampton and the M27 or via the A338/A337 from Christchurch.
If you are relying on public transport, it is again not the easiest destination for any to reach although the fact that town has its own train station make it easier than many towns of a similar size and location.
New Milton Railway Station was built in 1886 and acts as a station for not only New Milton but the surrounding villages of Milford on Sea, Bashley, Ashley, Hordle and Barton on Sea.
There are direct services to many villages, towns and cities across the south of England including Weymouth, Poole and Southampton whilst there are direct services to London Waterloo from where you can connect to rail services from across the capital to almost all parts of England, Scotland and Wales.
Out and About
The New Forest dominates the area around the town, with popular hot spots such as Brockenhurst, Lymington and Lyndhurst all just a short drive away.
To the west of New Milton is the county of Dorset with the historic city of Christchurch and the seaside town and resort of Bournemouth both easily reached from New Milton.
To the south of the town in the small seaside village of Milford on Sea from where you can enjoy a day at the beach or visit the nearby Hurst Castle. You can also take in views of the Isle of Wight or for a fun day out why not take the ferry across the Solent from Lymington.

Further past Southampton is the market town of Fareham and then the historic naval port city of Portsmouth which is a must visit for anybody interested in the long history of naval battles.
