Yorkshire Coast Caravan Holidays
The Yorkshire Coast stretches from the Humber estuary in the South up to the Tees estuary in the North and take sin the historical counties of North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire.
The Northern part of the Yorkshire Coast is home to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and takes in the historic Staithes, Runswick Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby whilst the Southern part of the Yorkshire Coast is known as the Holderness Coast. This section takes in Hornsea, Withernsea and Skipsea and Spurn Point.
In-between these 2 in the central part of the Yorkshire Coast which is the most popular for those wanting a Yorkshire Coast caravan holiday is this is where the larger resorts and holiday parks are located. This region includes the resorts of Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough.
This section of coastline is also famous for its stunning cliffs which can rise to around 200 metres above sea level. For many it is the cliff tops at Bempton, which is home to 100’000’s of sea birds and offer stunning views out over the North Sea.
Popular Resorts
Scarborough
Scarborough is not only one of the leading resorts on the Yorkshire Coast but it is also one of the most popular seaside resort sin the UK.
Scarborough features all you would expect from a seaside resort including amusement arcades, ice cream stall, a fun fair etc. etc. but there is so much more to this resort.
For holidaymakers most of the attractions in Scarborough can be found in the 2 large bay’s that make up the Scarborough seafront.
A top the cliff that separates the 2 bays is Scarborough Castle with the town centre spread out behind it.
Popular attractions in Scarborough in its Sea Life Centre and Seal Sanctuary, Peasholme Park (including seafront miniature train), Scarborough Castle, boat rides and of course the beautiful sandy beaches.
Whitby
Whitby is an historical port that is famous as the departure point for Captain Cook. Equally as famous is the towns Abbey- which was a major influence for Bram Stokers Dracula.
Robin Hood’s Bay
Robin Hood’s Bay is located just to the North of Whitby and despite been smaller in size, it’s is just as steeped in history as a short stroll around the resort takes you back in time to the days of smuggles and pirates.
Filey
Filey may only be a small town but it packs a lot in. Split into 2 parts, Filey has a long promenade at the bottom of a large cliff which offers the chance to stroll along the seafront and take in the sea air whilst a top of the cliffs there is the town centre where shops, cafes and restaurant can be found.
Most importantly here on CaraHols.co.uk, Filey is the centre of Yorkshire Coast caravan holidays with a wide selection of holiday parks located around the town including those of large operators such as Haven and Park Resorts whilst you can also find smaller parks and evenly privately owned ones.
View Filey Holiday ParksBridlington
Bridlington is arguably the 2nd most popular seaside resort on the Yorkshire Coast and with good reason.
Bigger than Whitby but smaller than Scarborough, Bridlington is happy medium for those who like to keep busy but don’t enjoy the big crowds.
Bridlington has lots to offer holidaymakers including a great selection of holiday parks. Popular attractions include the many boat rides from the historic harbour, some of the best amusement arcades on the Yorkshire Coast, Bridlington spa, seafront fun fair and the resorts long promenade and sandy beaches where you can comfortably stroll for miles and enjoy views out over the North Sea.
It’s not just the resorts that attracts millions of holidaymakers to the Yorkshire Coast each year, the whole coast is simply stunning in our opinion. It’s no surprise therefore that the Yorkshire Coast is home to three of just thirty-two nationally designated Heritage Coasts. A heritage cost is a section of coastline which is deemed to have either exceptional or very good scenic quality.
The 3 stretchers of Yorkshire Coast designed as heritage coast is Saltburn-on-Sea to Scalby, Easington to Kilnsea and Reighton to Sewerby.
Sections of the Yorkshire Coast in the North are home to Whitby Jet, which was a favourite stone for Queen Victoria and which is still a popular stone for jewellery to this day.
This area is also known as the Dinosaur Coast as it is home to some of the world’s best Jurassic and Cretaceous geology. Fossils can be still be found to this day whilst taking a stroll along the beaches below the cliff tops of Whitby, Staithes and Runswick Bay.
From a CaraHols.co.uk point of view the main attraction of the Yorkshire Coast is the fantastic holiday parks on offer all along the coastline.
For those wanting all action style holiday parks the central region around the resorts of Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey is the place to head. Many of these holiday parks offer a wide choice of accommodation and a seemingly never ending list of activities, attraction and entertainment.
For those wanting a more relaxed holiday on the Yorkshire Coast, we would recommend looking to Southern sections of the coastline, where smaller parks can be found in and around the smaller resorts of Withernsea, Skipsea and Hornsea.
The North is a happy compromise with smaller to medium sized parks that still offer lots of entertainment and choice of accommodation.
