The centre of Dawlish is both historic and iconic and has long been the spot to take picture postcard phots whilst on holiday. That is due to the stunning location of Dawlish on the banks of the small Dawlish Water river which runs down the centre of the town.

This river, also known locally as the Brook, is banked by a small grassy area on one side and a number of tea rooms and local shops on the other side.

The river continues down to the seafront and out into the Channel and that is where the other iconic feature of the town can be found. A raised stretch of mainline railway runs along the seafront at Dawlish and makes for a unique coastal view.

Location

Dawlish is located on the south coast of Devon, near to the mouth of the river Exe, to the south west of the county town of Exeter and to the north west of Teignmouth.

Transport

For those visiting the resort from all parts of the British Isles aside from Cornwall and using their own transportation, the town can be easily reached via the A380 which links to the M5 motorway and then onto the rest of the UK’s motorway network.

From Cornwall and other parts Devon, the nearby A38 links to Plymouth and to the other south west towns and villages whilst the A30 links the town to the north of Devon.

For those relying on public transport, the town’s train station is easiest way to connect to the resort. The station I son the Exeter to Plymouth line and links to London, Bristol and many other major cities in England.

Out and About

Exeter is just a short drive or train journey from the town and is a great place to take in some of the culture of the region. The county town is home to a number of attraction, historic sights including Exeter Cathedral as well as a good range of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.

To the east of the resort is the famous Dartmoor National Park which offers a wide range of walking and hiking trails just waiting to be explored with many offering good paths and natural wonders such as waterfalls.

For those using the town as a base for exploration and as somewhere to relax, you can still enjoy all that the all action resort of Torbay has to offer with Babbacombe (cliff railway and Model Village), Torquay, Paignton (Paignton Zoo) and Brixham (Brixham Harbour) as the English Riviera is just a short drive from Dawlish.
