Perranporth Caravan Holidays and Holiday Parks

The towns name comes from Porth Peran, which is Cornish for the Cove of Saint Piran who is the patron saint of Cornwall. HE founded St Piran’s Oratory near to the town in the 7th century, which was found buried under sand in the 19th century after been lost for 100’s of years.
Nowadays it is the tourism that is the major industry for the town and the with miles of beautiful sand beach and sand dunes just waiting to be explored for visitors, it is no surprise that this small Cornish town is so popular.
Best of all, from out point of view, the town and surrounding area is home to a number of great caravan holiday parks including large holiday parks and small caravan parks.

Perranporth Caravan Holidays

Perranporth Attractions
The biggest attraction of Perranporth is Perranporth itself!
The town of Perranporth itself is centred on a main street, St Piran’s Road, which has a number of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and acts as the main hub of the town.
Whilst the town location on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall, the town offers miles of beautiful sandy beaches which face Perran Bay and offer a great spot to relax and watch the 1000’s of surfers who head to the town during the summer to take advantage of the big waves that roll in from the Atlantic Ocean.
Most of the beach at Perran Sands is backed by sand dunes, which stretch for nearly a mile in land at places. These dunes, known as the Penhale Sands are great for exploring, especially for those with children and also give you the chance to find your own secluded spot away from the crowds.
The southern end of the beach is completely different from the wide open, sandy and dune backed beach of the central and northern parts as the southern parts of the beach are rocky and has cliffs.
This part of the beach also features natural arches, natural stacks and also tin-mining adits which gives a look into the history of this part of Cornwall- a history that inspired local resident Winston Graham to write the Poldark novels.
To the south west of the resort the coast continues to get rockier and has cliffs that rise to nearly 100 metres at Cligga Head.
These changes and cliffs can perhaps best be viewed by a walk along the Perranporth to St Agnes Clifftop Walk that offer great views of this Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Sites of interest in the local area include St Piran’s Oratory whilst other attractions include Perranporth Museum, the Black Flag Brewery and of course if you are inspired by the local surfers showing off there skills, there is the chance to learn the craft at the towns own surf school.
Location
Perranporth is located on the northern coast of Cornwall, on the Atlantic Coast, around 8 miles south west of Newquay. The town is almost due north of Falmouth, to the north west of Truro and to the west of St Austell.
The town is close to both the A3075 and A30 roads which makes it easy to explore.
Transport
For those with access to their own transport, the town is easy to reach from most parts of the British Isles as it is near to the A30 which links Cornwall to the M5 in Devon. During busy periods and on weekend this road can be busy so it can take some time to reach Perranporth once you leave the motorway network.
For those relying on public transport, the town is harder to reach as there is no railway station in Perranporth. There are long distance coach services to London and towns in the south/ south west but the nearby town of Newquay does have more long distance coach services as well as regular train services and an airport with good internal flight options.
Out and About
Newquay is just a short drive to the north west and is one of the largest urban areas in the region. The town offers a good number of shops, bars, cafes, restaurants and attractions as well as some stunning scenery and beautiful beaches.
Truro is to the south of the resort and easily reached via road from the town, offers a step back into history due to strong links to the mining and pirate industries. Truro is the county town of Cornwall and offers a number of historical building and sites of interest.
Other popular places for holidaymakers nearby include St Ives, one of the county’s most popular holiday resorts, and Falmouth, an historic naval port.
