The West coast of Scotland features 100’s of Island and 3 of the larger of these Island can be found in the county of Ayrshire. These are the Isle of Arran, Great Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae.

The county of Ayr is a many rural county, with miles upon miles of fertile fields and when coupled with the miles of rugged coastline the county offers the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday.

If you like to explore on foot whilst on holiday there are many walks and hikes that can be enjoyed in Ayrshire with many trails taking in the numerous historical sites that can be found in the region.

Ayrshire has a long and fascinating history with the Roman having arguably earliest lasting impact. As with so many areas of the British Isles, war takes up much of the history of the region and now there are many Castles and fortresses which attract tourists, including the iconic Turnberry Castle.

As with so much of Scotland there has been many changes made to the different councils, borders and so on but for most Ayrshire can be split into separate regions- East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire and South Ayrshire

North Ayrshire

The northern parts of Ayrshire are amongst the more rural with most of it either coastal of rural. Largs and Irvine are the major urban areas. North Ayrshire also take in the Isle of Arran which is always a popular day trip for holidaymakers with numerous ferries making the trip easy to make either on foot or with your vehicle.

East Ayrshire

East Ayrshire is the only part of the region that doesn’t have a coastline but that not to say it is lacking in natural beauty. Most of East Ayrshire is rural in nature although it is also where Kilmarnock, the county’s largest town, can be found. Muirkirk and Cumnock are the other main places in the East of Ayr.

South Ayrshire

South Ayrshire is arguably the most popular part of the county for holidaymakers as it is in this region that many of the counties famous gold courses can be found along with the larger of the counties caravan holiday parks.

The county town of Ayr is found in South Ayrshire as is Prestwick- home to the counties own international airport.

Other major places include Troon, Maybole and Girvan.

One of the best aspects of Ayrshire from our point of view is the choice of caravan holiday parks in the region. Whilst it may not be able to boast the numbers of other parts of the UK, it certainly offers a good section of differing types and styles of holiday parks.

For those wanting an all action holiday park with lots of entertainment for the whole family the coastal parts of the county are the place to go, especially in and around the county town of Ayr.

The north offers a great choice of small and relaxed holiday parks either near the sea or in the countryside whilst the east offers a good choice of small caravan parks just perfect for getting back to nature and exploring the surrounding area.

Alongside the choice in types of caravan holiday parks in Ayrshire there is also a good range of caravan park operators in the region.

From the big operators offering all action parks along the coast to owner-operator parks that ca be found in the rural areas. That choice means that no matter what your budget is there is sure to be a park that fits.

Many people want different things from a caravan holiday. Some want a park with all of the bells and whistle with not stop entertainment that means whatever you want to do you can do it and you never need to leave the park whilst some simply want a good quality caravan or other accommodation to relax in on a night before a day off exploring. Some want a mix of the both whilst some don’t know until they get there.

The god news is that whichever of these you fit into there will be an option for you in Ayrshire and if you holiday party feature a mix of these, there is sure to be an option for that as well.

With so much history in the county, from Castle and Fortresses to Robert the Bruce and from world famous gold courses to iconic whisky distilleries there is sure to be something in the county just waiting to be explored.

For those wanting to venture further afield the city of Glasgow, with all of its culture, shopping, cafes and restaurants and of course sporting venues are just a short drive away or you can use the numerous local bus services and trains that leave regularly from the places such as Ayr, Kilmarnock and Prestwick.

To the South, Stranraer can be easily reached and from here you can catch a ferry over the Irish Sea to Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland and an up and coming tourist destination in its own right.
