The iconic tramway runs from Starrgate, just to the south of Blackpool to Fleetwood to the north. As well as an interesting trip and a great way to see the 7 miles of Blackpool promenade, the tramway also makes it easy to explore all that Blackpool and the nearby coastline has to offer.

The one attraction that you cannot miss in Blackpool is the iconic Blackpool Tower, which sits in the middle of the resort and offers everything from an aquarium to a ballroom to an observation deck complete with a glass floor.

Throughout the autumn and winter the seafront comes alive with 1000’s and 1000’s of lightbulbs as the resorts illuminations take over and if you have never experienced the illuminations in Blackpool, it is one of those much see events that is great for adults and kids alike.

Split almost evenly along the seafront are the towns 3 piers; South Pier, Central Pier and North Pier, each of which offer their own unique style and attractions.

To the south of the resort is the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a theme park offering a great mix of rides and shows for the whole family to enjoy including the iconic Big One, which dominates the skyline of the southern end of Blackpool.

Across from the Pleasure Beach is the Sandcastle Water Park whilst from the southern tip of the prom to the northern tip is a range of attractions including many of Europe’s largest amusement arcades.

Location

Blackpool is located on the Lancashire coast, 15 miles northwest of Preston and close to the Cumbrian border in the North West of England.

There is a good motorway network to the town which makes it easy to reach from all parts of the UK and there are also regular train services from most northern towns and cities.

Transport

Blackpool sits at the western end of the M55 motorway which links to the M6 which makes it easy to reach the resort from all parts of the UK.

Blackpool also has 2 train station with the resort Blackpool North station offering long distance services to most towns and cities across northern England, central England and up to Scotland whilst nationwide connection can be made from the nearby Manchester.

There are numerous long distance coach services to Blackpool so no matter if you have your own transport or rely on public transport, the resort is easy to reach.

Out and About

To the south of the resort is the town of Lytham St Annes which offers a traditional seaside day out.

To the north and easily reached via the Blackpool tramway are the seaside towns of Cleveleys and Fleetwood.

Further north and around an hour away is the iconic Lake District which popular with hikers and walkers but there are also great attractions and the chance to take in some of the country’s most stunning locations.
