Great Yarmouth Attractions

Yarmouth has many attractions for all holidaymakers to enjoy from the thrills and spills of rollercoasters to a sedate river boat ride on the Norfolk Broads.

The Tollhouse, complete with Dungeons is one of the oldest Gaols to survive in the UK as it can be dated back to the 13th century. Likewise, the towns Minster can be dated back to the same period, if not slightly earlier- this is the largest parish church in England.

There are 2 piers in Yarmouth, the Britannia Pier which is to the North of the resort and features the most entertainment and the Wellington Pier, in the South. The resort is also home to the countries only full time circus, the Hippodrome.

Next door to the Wellington Pier is the historic Winter Gardens, which is a Grade 2 listed building that features a cast iron frame.

The resorts seafront features a long promenade which is locally known as ‘The Golden Mile’. As with so many seaside resorts in the UK, Great Yarmouth’s promenade is the real hub of the town and features everything from a theme park to amusement arcades and bowling greens to a model village.

There is also a large adventure golf course on the promenade which is one of the biggest and best in the country as well as a SeaLife Centre, the iconic Merrivale Model Village and the always popular Pleasure Beach and Gardens.

Yarmouth is also home to a popular horse racing track, which is just located to the North of the town and across from the race track is Yarmouth Stadium- which is home to greyhound racing as well as Stock Cars.

Location

Great Yarmouth is located around 30 miles to the East of the city of Norwich on the Norfolk coast, close to the border of Suffolk.
Lowestoft is just to the south of Great Yarmouth, whilst Cromer is to the North.

Away from the coast is the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads with Acle and Wroxham, two of the more popular Broadlands towns and boat hire places are within a short drive from the resort.

Transport

Whilst East Anglia is famed for not having much in the way of trunk roads or motorways, Great Yarmouth is well served by a number of large ‘A’ roads including the A12 and A143 from the South, the A47 from Norwich and the East.

The town also has a number of coach services to large towns and cities across the UK whilst there are regular train services to Norwich and other local destinations as well as numerous towns and cities across England.

Out and About

Norwich is easily reached via road and rail from the town and many visitors drive past the city on their way to Yarmouth without even stopping off to enjoy all that this popular historic city has to offer.

Norwich ‘s Cathedral is iconic but it is the many independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurant that makes Norwich stand out over other cities.

For many holidaymakers to Great Yarmouth it is the Norfolk Broads and the Suffolk Broads that is the reason for visiting and is their one day away from the town. With miles of rivers and multiple broads all waiting to be explored, this haven of wildlife attracts millions of visitors a year.

The broads can be explored either on large river boats where you can relax and take in all that this Area of Outstanding Beauty has to offer or why not hire your own boat and explore on your own.

Popular spots in the Broadlands for boat rides are the nearby Acle, the slightly further away Wroxham, often known as the capital of the broads, with Beccles a popular spot on the Suffolk Broads.
